Exploring GREENLAND'S ICE SHEET at Kangerlussuaq! (The icy center of the world's largest island)

After landing at the Kangerlussuaq Airport, I immediately headed out to explore the nearby Greenlandic ice sheet - the world's largest ice cap outside of Antarctica. You've likely noticed this massive sheet of ice as the pure white center of the world's largest island, just off the coast of the Canadian Arctic. With Kangerlussuaq being the only community in Greenland with road access to the edge of the ice sheet, I knew that I had to check it out. So, I booked a tour with Albatross Arctic Circle to Point 660, right at the edge of this massive sheet of ice that covers Greenland from north to sound and from east to west ($130). We ventured east out of Kangerlussuaq in a custom-built truck that was capable of handling the icy roads and steep inclines of the rough trails that would follow. The views of the icy Greenlandic landscapes were sublime, with clear views of remote lakes, Caribou herds, and the impressive Russell Glacier. Eventually, we arrived at the ice cap, and I was blown away by the vastness of this massive sea of ice, stretching across the horizon in all directions. After the tour, I had an early night at the cozy Old Camp guesthouse, followed by a hearty breakfast the next morning at the Polar Lodge near the Kangerlussuaq Airport.
