DOACs: Anticoagulation Principles - Part 1: Background, Mechanism, and Uses

This video is a complete review of the use of DOACs (direct oral anticoagulants). It will be presented in a three part lecture series, the first of which will go over the following objectives: • List four advantages and four disadvantages of using DOACs compared to warfarin. • Review the two different mechanisms of action of the DOACs. • List four indications that are common to the three main DOACs. • Define when dosages should be decreased for declining renal function for the three main DOACs. • Describe the limitations of storing and opening dabigatran capsules.
