Yo La Tengo - “A Message to Pretty” (Dallas, 4/29/25)
This cover of the song by Love was dedicated during YLT’s encore to two musical figures who were taken from us far too soon: Dallas Good (of The Sadies) and Christopher Penn (co-founder of Good Records in Dallas). Another cover of this song was performed by a forgotten, short-lived psych/garage band from the 1960s called The Rising Storm. Their sole album — CALM BEFORE — was recorded in 1967 while the members were still in prep school together, shortly before they disbanded. It’s a stellar artifact from a bygone era.
