Rankgerüst selbst gebaut – Gemüsetunnel | Querbeet
Climbing aid made from old steel mesh: Sabrina wants to build a vegetable trellis between two raised beds. High enough to be walked underneath. The goal: a vegetable tunnel. The Materials Sabrina wants to build a very special trellis from leftover steel mesh that is no longer needed. What's special about this project: The trellis forms a tunnel between two raised beds, through which you can walk and harvest the vegetables at eye level. The goal: to stroll through a tunnel of snow peas and chayote in the summer and be able to harvest comfortably. This unusual vegetable tunnel is an absolute eye-catcher in any vegetable garden and thus also an important design element. The Construction Sabrina had the steel mesh cut to the appropriate length and width beforehand. The two side pieces are the same length, with a smaller section of mesh forming the centerpiece. In two raised beds, the two side pieces are firmly fixed in the ground and connected in the middle by another mesh. To ensure the unusual trellis is stable enough, Sabrina connects the individual mats with wires. Sowing snow peas Since Sabrina compacted the soil in the raised bed when building the trellis, she loosens it deeply before sowing the snow peas. She then sows the snow peas (variety 'Früher Heinrich') on the inside of the slightly curved trellis so that the straight, upward-growing shoots can quickly find support. Snow peas can be sown easily starting in March; a few cold nights don't bother them. Important: Water everything thoroughly after sowing. Depending on the weather and variety, the snow peas are ready for harvest 2 to 3 months after sowing.
