Access More NurseMinder content here https://linktr.ee/nurseminder Alaris Pump Training ARBs work in the last step of the renin angiotensin aldosterone pathway and their function is to lower blood pressure by blocking the receptor sites where angiotensin 2 normally binds. When angiotensin 2 is able to bind to the receptors sites in the smooth muscle of the vessels and in the adrenal cortex, there are two distinctive and important actions that take place 1) the vessels constrict .... massively constrict and 2) the adrenal cortex excretes aldosterone. Aldosterone will then cause salt and water to be retained in the body to help increase blood pressure. those are really great when our blood pressure is low. But what happens when our blood pressure is too high and it does not return to normal? There are many things we can try and we always start at looking at lifestyle modifications such as diet, sleep, reducing stress and alcohol use, exercise. If those are ineffective, we then look at pharmacological therapy. Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs) are a commonly used classification of antihypertensive designed to lower blood pressure.
