For more than two decades – and with continually evolving generations – Scott has offered the Genius model in its portfolio. However, for 2023, the company has given the bike a major update, both technically and visually. With this, Scott is launching a second model with the unmistakable and exceptional frame design. The first was the cross-country model Spark. The new Genius fits into the trail bike segment and is available in two fundamentally different versions. The Genius with the abbreviation "ST" – which stands for "Super Trail" – is characterized by a more versatile adjustable chassis and more downhill-focused components. The Genius without the abbreviation is intended more as an all-rounder and features simpler chassis adjustment options and components. Both versions share the same frame and each come with 150 millimeters of rear travel, coupled with a 160-millimeter suspension fork. The frame itself is available in two different carbon layups. Scott also offers the new Genius model with an aluminum frame in the same design language. Scott calls the three different shock modes on the Genius ST Climb Mode, Ramp Control, and Open Mode – all of which can be selected via the handlebar remote. ON THE TRAIL Although adjusting the shock is a bit more complicated than usual, it's still easy to do. The sag indicator is a great tool for finding the right suspension setting. The seating position is very central on the bike, and rider and bike quickly blend into one. The Scott accelerates really quickly and briskly for a trail bike; even in the open shock position, the rear end demonstrates plenty of propulsion. This means that even uphill, the bike barely bobs at the rear end. Those who still want to achieve maximum propulsion performance can easily tighten the shock via the handlebar remote. The Genius ST demonstrates exceptional climbing ability, and the steep 77.1-degree seat angle positions us comfortably on the bike even on steep climbs. Scott has installed its well-known three-lever handlebar remote on the left side of the handlebar. One lever controls the dropper post, while the other two select three different shock modes. On descents, the Scott puts a smile on our faces. The trail bike's nimble, poppy, and agile handling is exactly what we're looking for. For more than two decades—and with ever-increasing generations—Scott has carried the Genius model in its portfolio. For 2023, however, the company has given the bike a massive update, both technically and visually. Thus, Scott puts a second model with the distinctive and unusual frame design. The first was the cross-country model Spark. The new Genius classifies itself in the trail bike division and is available in two fundamentally different versions. The Genius with the abbreviation "ST" - it stands for "Super Trail" - is characterized by a more versatile adjustable chassis and downhill-heavier components. The Genius without the abbreviation is more of an all-around model and features more simply carved suspension adjustments and components. Both variants share the same frame and each comes with 150 millimeters of rear travel, linked to a 160-millimeter suspension fork. The frame itself is available in two different carbon lay-ups. In addition, Scott offers the new Genius model also with aluminum frame in the same design language. Scott calls the three different damper modes at the Genius ST Climb Mode, Ramp Control and Open Mode - all can be selected via handlebar remote. ON THE TRAIL While the damper setting is a bit more cumbersome than usual, it's still easy to get the hang of. The SAG indicator is a great tool for getting the right suspension setting. The seating position is chosen very central on the bike, quite quickly merge rider and bike into one unit. The Scott accelerates really fast and lively for a trail bike, even in the open damper position. Who still wants to achieve maximum propulsive performance, can easily lock the shock via handlebar remote. The Genius ST displays extremely successful climbing behavior, the steep seat angle of 77.1 degrees positions us comfortably on the bike even on steep ramps. Scott has installed his familiar three-lever handlebar remote on the left side of the handlebar. One lever allows the operation of the vario support, with the other two can be selected three different damper modes. On the descent, the Scott puts a grin on our faces. Seemingly playful and with maximum control, it can be surfed over the trail in the truest sense of the word. 0:24 The Bike 3:42 The Geometry 4:03 The Components 5:33 On the Trail 7:13 Conclusion
