When she didn't answer the door or the phone, her friend called police for a welfare check. Nancy was found in her bed. She was 38 years old — a nursing home aide, a part-time bartender, a volunteer EMT, and a mother of two. She had been beaten, sexually assaulted, and strangled. Evidence inside and outside the house showed she had fought back. DNA was collected from her fingernails and from the scene. More than 100 people were interviewed and DNA-tested over the years that followed. At sentencing, Gina stood before the court and spoke for the first time in her own words about what 39 years had taken from her. This is the story of Nancy Daugherty.
