INIFRESI: I LINALAI
©2021 Blue Waves, Inc. - All rights reserved: [email protected] Inifresi: I Linalai This cultural piece was brought to life with the thought that Mes CHamoru 2021 also fell on the 500th anniversary of Magellan's arrival on Guam. It is a reminder of our pledge as CHamorus to protect and defend the beliefs, the culture, the language, the air, the water, and the land of our people. As this came to heart, it prompted an urge to bring the pledge into the light of film again, in the form of a sequel to the original Inifresi film from 2016. The creation of the film Inifresi: I Linalai, was for the younger girl in the first film to now reclaim the oath of the Inifresi and hold true to her promise that she made as a child. Now that she is older, she's imprinting the CHamoru oath for her generation. This film is a call for our people to pass down the lessons and spirit of our culture. We must perpetuate the Inifresi and continue to create a legacy for generations to come. The team reached out to cultural experts on island and as fate would have it, the I Fanalai'an Oral History Project thru Juanita I. Sgambelluri shared of the unpublished Inifresi chant that her brother Leonard Z. Iriarte had created by the request and blessing of the original author of our Inifresi, Dr. Bernadita Camacho-Dungca. Time, people, and resources aligned for the creation of this film and we hope that it helps to ignite and perpetuate the culture and language of our CHamoru people. More importantly, we want it to serve as a reminder of the severity of our oath to protect and defend our culture and everything tied to our Guahan.
