The Best Players Look Lazy. Here's Why That's Smart.

Ever gas out halfway through a roll while the older guys barely move and still tap everyone? I've been watching Lionel Messi during the World Cup, and two things he does on the field changed how I think about jiu-jitsu, especially as we get older. First, he only goes for the most effective moves. Nothing fancy, nothing flashy. Just the fundamentals, done really well. It's the same thing Royce Gracie built his whole game on. Second, people used to call him lazy. He walks around the field, watches, waits, and only jumps on the play when the opening is really there. On the mat, that's the difference between a white belt burning all their energy trying everything, and an experienced grappler who moves inch by inch and explodes only when it counts. If you're training over 30, 40, or 50, this is the stuff that keeps you rolling for life. Want to train smarter as you age?
