Fishrot Trial 26 July 2024

The much-anticipated Fishrot corruption trial starts in the High Court before Judge Moses Chinhengo. The trial involves former Cabinet ministers Bernardt Esau and Sacky Shanghala, businessmen Ricardo Gustavo, James Hatuikulipi, Pius Mwatelulo, and Tamson Hatuikulipi, former Fishcor CEO Mike Nghipunya, Otneel Shuudifonya, Phillipus Mwapopi, Nigel van Wyk, and 17 other accused, who are charged with corruptly receiving payments of at least N$300 million to give a competitive advantage to Icelandic fishing company Samherji in securing access to horse mackerel quotas in Namibia.
