Speaking on condition of anonymity, these deserters, originally from Syria or Jordan, have agreed for the first time to reveal their experiences under the yoke of this organization, as well as the reasons that led them to join and then flee. Primarily based in Raqqa, the organization's former political and military capital, their testimonies are exceptional, because as a rule, deserters hide and remain silent—for fear of being caught by the organization.
