MIAMI'S NOTORIOUS PORK 'N' BEANS PROJECTS NOW COMPLETELY GONE / THEN AND NOW
The official name of the "Pork and Beans" project in Miami is Liberty Square. Located in the Liberty City neighborhood, it was established in 1937 as the first public housing project for Black residents in the Southern United States. They had become a haven for violent crimes, and gang activity. They were regularly featured on the show first 48 for their gang related murders. The nickname originated from the orange color the doors were painted, which resembled pork and beans.
