Report by Serambi Indonesia Journalist Zaki Mubarak | Lhokseumawe SERAMBINEWS.COM, LHOKSEUMAWE – A total of 450 Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers from the 117th Ksatria Yudha Infantry Battalion officially departed for the Papua border region. The combat troops from the Aceh Iskandar Muda Military Command (Kodam Iskandar Muda) were seen off by the battalion commander, Jahrul Fahmi, at the Krueng Geukueh Harbor Pier, North Aceh, on Thursday (July 2, 2026). The send-off was filled with emotion. The tears of their families, wives, and children could not be held back as the soldiers boarded the KRI Banjarmasin 592. Before departing, they participated in a traditional peusijuk ceremony led by cleric Waled Lapang as a prayer for safety. Jahrul Fahmi stated that before serving in Boven Digoel Regency, all personnel would undergo one month of pre-deployment training in Cipatat, West Java. In addition to safeguarding sovereignty, the task force also carries out humanitarian missions, such as teaching and assisting the agricultural sector for Papuans. The Commander of the 117/KY Infantry Battalion emphasized that all soldiers were mentally and physically prepared. He also advised the families left behind in Aceh to remain steadfast and continue to pray for the soldiers' safety during their one-year deployment until their return home.
