For Bishop Benjamin Ndiaye, President of the Episcopal Conference of Senegal, the Synod is "a ripe time" to journey together on the family. And Africa, represented through some forty episcopal conferences, has a central role to play in the discussions. The African family, facing the challenges of poverty and unemployment, still has strong cultural traditions (polygamy, marriage in stages, etc.), which requires true pastoral outreach.
