It has never been colonized, it remains a Kingdom today, and it is known to be the Friendly Islands. But sadly Tonga was on my radar more recently because of the massive submarine volcano that exploded on January 15, 2022, causing apocalyptic storms, surges, and a tsunami that leveled parts of the island chain. One year after the volcanic eruption, I traveled to Tonga where I got to witness its vast natural beauty, its age-old traditions, delicious meals, historic sights, and the deep seeded connection to faith!
