El futuro del cerro de “El Carambolo” en Camas (Sevilla), a debate
The slopes of El Carambolo hill in Camas (Seville) have been listed as an 'Outstanding Landscape' for 20 years. Its clay soils and the deforestation it is currently experiencing threaten its preservation. Landscape protection has prevented its overdevelopment, but a solid project to secure its future as a green space has not yet been implemented. At the top of the hill, the Seville municipal water company, EMASESA, has its main facilities. 'Las Gemelas' (two water reservoirs) each store 100,000 cubic meters of water and require stable ground on which to rest. The Seville City Council, EMASESA, and the "Coordinadora de Entidades ProPulmón Verde de Camas" (Coordinator of Entities for the Green Lung of Camas) are addressing the problem from different perspectives. The future of the hill would involve the construction of a forest park, a green space of more than 40 hectares that would be the epicenter of a large green corridor and just minutes from Seville by bike path. Reconciling this with the much-needed civil engineering is an increasingly urgent challenge. Speakers: Miguel Ángel Martín (Delegate for Urban Habitat of the Camas City Council), José Antonio Gómez (Technical Director of EMASESA), Enrique Hernández (Spokesperson for the Coordinating Committee of Entities for the Green Lung of Camas).
