Journalist Alejandro Leiva was shot and killed in front of his home in Etla, Oaxaca, in a targeted attack that has shocked the journalistic community. Colleagues described him as one of the most outspoken critics of the state government, author of the column "El zumbido del Moscardón" (The Buzz of the Bumblebee), where he denounced alleged acts of corruption. Leiva had reported threats in 2025 to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and human rights organizations, although the investigations were dismissed and he never received protection. Following the murder, the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR) took over the investigation, while journalists are demanding a thorough investigation into the case due to its possible connection to his reporting.
