Temporary Crown Fabrication by Indirect Method // Prosthodontics

An indirect temporary crown is a provisional restoration fabricated on a dental cast in a laboratory or outside the patient's mouth. This method protects the prepared tooth from heat, limits soft-tissue irritation from chemical resins, and significantly reduces patient chair time. ✅Preliminary ImpressionBefore the tooth is prepared, an alginate or silicone impression is taken ✅Tooth Preparation & Second ImpressionThe dentist shapes the actual tooth in the patient's mouth. Afterward, a second impression is taken of the prepared area to create a "working cast ✅The working cast is painted with a separating medium. ✅Tooth-colored acrylic resin (PMMA) or bis-acryl composite is mixed and loaded into the preliminary matrix. ✅The matrix is seated firmly onto the stone model of the prepared teeth and allowed to cure ✅Finishing and PolishingThe hardened temporary crown is removed from the stone model. The excess material is trimmed away with acrylic burs, ✅CementationThe finished crown is delivered to the dentist to be placed in the patient's mouth with a temporary cement (e.g., zinc oxide-eugenol)
