Dr Mike Allen, a leading environmental archaeologist and the former environmental manager at Wessex Archaeology, has published over a dozen books, including the text book ‘Molluscs in Archaeology’. This lecture explored the use of environmental techniques to address the tricky problem of dating a hill figure. He explained how OSL - Optically stimulated luminescence - and snails were used to date the Cerne Abbas Giant.
