Neuer Jeep Compass als e-Hybrid (2022) - Mild- oder Plug-in-Hybrid? Welcher passt zu mir?

Jeep plans to stop offering purely combustion engines within the next two years. This is a challenge for a brand that is strongly associated with off-road vehicles and SUVs. But governments and their environmental-focused regulations seem to make this path inevitable. A fully electric Jeep SUV is even scheduled to arrive in early 2023. But now, the Compass compact SUV, designed for urban use, is coming to market with an electric hybrid drive. We've already had the chance to drive the 4.40-meter-long Italian. Our first goal was to determine who would be better served by this drive system and who would make the better choice with the plug-in hybrid drive. The Jeep Compass received a facelift mid-last year, to mark the brand's 80th anniversary, which not least resulted in higher-quality materials in the interior and more intuitive operation. Because today's report builds on it. One shouldn't bore you with repetition. But now to the electric hybrid drive in the 2022 Compass. It combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 48-volt electric motor. The combustion engine can deliver up to 130 hp and 240 Nm of torque, while the electric motor delivers up to 22 hp and 135 Nm. The power of these two engines is sent exclusively to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission; an all-wheel-drive version of this drive system is not offered. Prices for the Compass with this E-Hybrid system start at €39,600. Jeep states a WLTP fuel consumption of 5.7 to 6 liters per 100 km/h (44.4 to 46.2 US mpg). This figure is approximately 15 percent lower than that of the gasoline-only engine. Fuel consumption with the E-Hybrid on our test drive was a realistic 8 liters per 100 km/h (39.2 US mpg). An acceptable figure for a tall, 1.6-ton SUV. It reaches 100 km/h (62.2 mph) from a standstill in about 10 seconds. The fun stops at 193 km/h (120 mph). The system automatically decides which drive system to use while driving. The electric motor can be used to reduce fuel consumption or to boost the vehicle. The system uses the electricity stored during braking or slowing down. Charging from a wall outlet is not possible. The drive system worked perfectly on our test drive. (*Ad) ------------------ The Compass with the plug-in hybrid drive (PHEV) can be driven up to 47 kilometers purely electrically and can be powered via a socket, a wall box, or a charging station. The driver can influence this and, with conservative driving, drive predominantly in pure electric mode. However, they are dependent on the necessary charging options. Those who park at streetlights will hardly be happy with this. Those who primarily have to travel long distances will probably be more attracted to the E-Hybrid due to its lower fuel consumption. However, those who regularly have access to a charging option overnight and rarely drive very long distances will be better served by the PHEV Compass. Not least because, thanks to the environmental incentive, it is currently priced significantly lower than the E-Hybrid. Jeep guarantees delivery before the end of the year for orders placed before May 31st, which secures a bonus of approximately €7,000. This amount can be deducted from the minimum list price of €44,100. I think this is a really good deal for people who can decide to buy a new car before the end of May.
