Ballistic high-powered spider webs snare ants / Curr. Biol., June 22, 2026 (Vol. 36, Issue 12)
We report here a spring-actuated snare in the Australian ballista spider that is triggered by the defensive behavior of a specific prey, the green tree ants. The architecture of the snare enables exceptionally high instantaneous power amplification by storing elastic energy and rapidly releasing it.
