Benjamin Francis Webster (Kansas City, March 27th, 1909 – Amsterdam, September 20th, 1973) migrated to Europe in 1965, staying there until his death in 1973. He was one of the most important Swing Tenors, along with Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. He was a prominent figure in many orchestras from the 1930s on – putting in a tenure with Duke Ellington until 1943, when he left to pursue a solo career, until briefly reuniting the Ellington in 1948. (Past Daily). Don Byas. Real Name: Carlos Wesley Byas. Profile: American jazz tenor saxophonist Born October 21st, 1912, Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA, died August. 24th, 1972, Amsterdam, Netherlands. From a musical family, he succeeded Lester Young in the orchestra of Count Basie in 1941 and played with bop musicians in small groups, although he considered himself a swing musician. For the last quarter century of his life, Byas was based in Europe initially settling in Paris before moving to the Netherlands. He died from lung cancer.
