In fact, it is believed that our planet Earth was named 'Prithvi' in his honor. 2. Summary of the Story The Miserable State of the Kingdom: When King Pruthu toured his kingdom, he was deeply saddened to see that his subjects were extremely weak, malnourished, and living like animals. They were forced to consume low-quality food. The Priest's Advice: Seeking a solution, the king consulted his priests. They advised him that all wealth, grains, and natural resources were locked away inside the womb of Mother Earth (Vasundhara). He needed to find a way to extract them. The King’s Anger & Earth's Appearance: Frustrated and determined to save his people, King Pruthu picked up his bow and arrow, ready to punish the Earth. Seeing this, Mother Earth manifested herself in the form of a woman and stood before him. The Advice of Mother Earth: She explained to the king that his predecessor (King Vena) was a cruel ruler. To protect the seeds and grains from thieves and looters during his reign, she had hidden everything inside herself. She advised King Pruthu to put down his weapons and instead pick up farming tools like plows, spades, and sickles to cultivate the land. 3. Great Initiatives taken by King Pruthu King Pruthu immediately accepted Mother Earth's advice and initiated the world's first planned agricultural system: 1. Water Management: He channeled river streams efficiently and built dams and ponds to harvest and store rainwater. 2. Soil Cultivation: He plowed the fields and made the land fertile for farming. 3. Seed Processing: He collected various types of wild seeds, selected the best ones, processed them, and sowed them systematically. 4. The Fruit of Labor: Due to his immense hard work, the Earth became lush and green again. A bumper harvest was produced, and his subjects lived happily ever after.
