Trying Still Life in Watercolor (Outside My Comfort Zone)

Have you ever avoided painting a subject simply because it didn't feel like "you"? That's exactly how I've always felt about still life. I'm usually drawn to flowing subjects like oceans, mist, and skies, but today I decided to step outside my comfort zone and paint a simple red chili in watercolor. In this tutorial, I'll show you how I build up the painting using mostly wet-on-dry techniques while keeping the brushwork loose and expressive. We'll focus on creating form, shadows, color variation, and preserving highlights without overworking the painting. Whether you're new to watercolor or looking to practice still life, I hope this tutorial inspires you to try something different. 🎨 Materials Used: • 100% Cotton Watercolor Paper • Professional Watercolor Paints • Round Watercolor Brushes • Water & Mixing Palette If you'd like to see me paint this exact same chili using mostly wet-on-wet techniques, let me know in the comments! I'd love to compare the two approaches. If you enjoyed this tutorial, don't forget to: 👍 Like the video 💬 Leave a comment 🔔 Subscribe for more watercolor tutorials every week Happy Painting!
