The Alexiens are testing the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition for you. With this latest version, Amazon has released its very first color e-reader, and the result is truly impressive. It's the same old Kindle: a compact, lightweight format that feels comfortable in the hand. The 7-inch E-Ink Kaleido 3 screen finally lets you enjoy color without sacrificing the reading comfort inherent to e-ink. Browsing is fluid, responsive thanks to the GB of RAM, and you quickly feel comfortable using the device. Battery life remains solid, even with Wi-Fi, color, and lighting regularly enabled. In terms of features, it ticks almost all the boxes: 32 GB of storage, wireless charging, Bluetooth, IPX8 waterproofing... a real highlight. But it's not without its flaws. The color rendering, while satisfactory, lacks a bit of punch. The colors are soft, almost pastel—which may be pleasing for reading, but may disappoint those expecting something more vibrant. The contrast, sometimes a little off, reminds us that we're still a long way from the rendering of a good old black and white e-reader. The browser remains rudimentary, and French audio playback is still missing. In short, a very complete, well-designed e-reader, but with some limitations. That said, for those who want a more versatile Kindle with color as a bonus, this is a great alternative. A sustainable, well-balanced purchase at a fairly reasonable price.
