Debabrata Biswas is a known legend in the world of Rabindra Sangeet. He was born in the year 1911 in Barishal. This was the time King George v was visiting India for the Delhi Durbar. Thus he was nick named George. He was popularly called George Biswas and George-da which means Brother George. His music though not always technically sound was known for his superb expression and emotional depth. Debabrata Biswas is considered as a jewel in the history of Bengali Songs as well as a king pin for popularizing Rabindra Sangeet. His early renditions of Tagore Songs shows a brilliant full throated robust vocal expression as well as a strict adherence to the traditional rules and norms written and written, which he broke on the later half of his life. At this period he experimented with his vocal modulations and varied instrumental usage which was never seen or heard before by his contemporaries as well as he himself.These brought in a new freshness to the world of Rabindra Sangeet. Some of his most famous renditions are compiled in the above compilation "Best of Debabrata Biswas" such as Tumi Daak diyechho, Jeevanamaraner, Amar Bela Je and Dinguli Mor. Famous film maker Ritwik Ghatak consulted Debabrata Biswas for song selection and playback of Tagore songs.
