Beamish Museum: Life in a Northern English Town in a Bygone Era

Beamish Museum – Step Back in Time at the Living Museum of the North In this video we spend the day exploring Beamish Open Air Museum, one of the most unique museums in the UK. It’s not just displays behind glass — here you actually walk through history. We start in the Pit Village, visiting the miners’ cottages, the village school and the church before heading down into the drift mine to see what life underground was really like for coal miners. After that we stop for some traditional fish and chips, cooked the old-fashioned way — and yes, they tasted as good as they smelled! Next we explore Beamish’s historic transport, riding on the vintage trams and buses that carry visitors around the museum. From there we visit the 1950s farm, stepping into post-war rural life before heading into Beamish Town, set in the late Victorian and Edwardian era. Here we explore: • The old bank and historic money displays • The Masonic Hall • A traditional bakery • The Sun Inn pub • And the old Co-operative store Beamish isn’t just a museum — it’s like walking straight into the past. Join us as we explore the streets, ride the trams, and discover what everyday life was really like in the North of England. Thanks for watching! Karen & James Just for the Weekend
