You can still get an S-Rank if you lose a life and hit retry to start the stage from the beginning, as long as you don't run out of credits. In this video, I used 1 continue on stage 6, and 2 on stage 7, but this was edited out. The cutscenes were added to the video after I had played the game. This causes a small fadeout issue at the start of the stage 5 boss.
