UN ÚLTIMO ESFUERZO | LA HISTORIA DE ABBEY ROAD | THE BEATLES

After completing their Get Back project and with the single "Don't Let Me Down" between it and the album topping the charts, the Beatles repeated the same formula they'd done months earlier by releasing the White Album, completely disengaging from the band and dedicating themselves to personal projects. John Lennon was the most active, with his crusade for peace in Amsterdam, Montreal, and finally Toronto, before taking a short vacation. Ringo and Paul followed suit, even coinciding in the south of France while on vacation. George Harrison stayed in London, producing for Apple's new artists and enjoying his role as a studio musician. Soon the four would be back in the city, and although no one believed in the band's continuity, they were surprised when Paul McCartney called George Martin to tell him that the four Beatles intended to record a new album. After all the tensions experienced during the White Album and after his departure from the group, which led to Glyn Johns taking his place as producer, George Martin remained skeptical. He doubted McCartney's good intentions, beyond his good intentions. He didn't believe George and Ringo would want this, much less that John, with all his projects, would want to return to the same thing. When Martin questioned McCartney, Paul was very clear: "You don't have to worry about them," he said. "We want to work like we did in the old days, and we want you to produce it." That's how Abbey Road was born. Main Sources: The Beatles Anthology (1995) The Sound of the Beatles/Geoff Emerick The Beatles: The Color of Dreams/Antonio Panadero Songs.
