Likewise, I will show you the very interesting tour of the city Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World), where the monument of the same name is located. This important tourist place is located in one of the parishes of Quito called San Antonio de Pichincha. This monument indicates the midpoint of the equinox line, which is 1 km (0.6213 miles) wide and 40,075 km (24,901 miles) long around planet Earth. This monument was erected in honor of the scientists of the first Geodetic Mission from France and Spain, who arrived in Ecuador in 1736 to verify Isaac Newton's postulates regarding the true shape of the planet Earth (flattened at its poles); for which they had to make measurements starting from latitude 0° 0' 0".
