Frankie Gavin and friends play The Dublin Reel in The Crosses of Annagh pub in Miltown Malbay County Clare. Fiddle player Frankie Gavin performs The Dublin Reel with Maeve Donnelly, Dezi Donnelly, Roger Sherlock and Peter Farrell. Also in attendance is Con Greaney, who has just performed a song. As this is the final performance of the programme, the musicians play out over the closing credits. Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy, which began in 1973, is a week-long summer school in traditional music and set dance held each year in Miltown Malbay. The summer school commemorates Miltown Malbay’s best-known uilleann piper, Willie Clancy (1918-1973). This episode of ‘The Willie Clancy Sessions’ was recorded at Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy 1997 and broadcast on 18 January 1998. ‘The Willie Clancy Sessions’ was a traditional music series recorded at the 25th Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, County Clare. In addition to traditional music, it featured song and dance from both well-known and not so well known musicians, recorded in a variety of venues around the town. It ran for one series only. The presenter is Frankie Gavin.
