UW NEXT Webinar: AI and Privacy for Humans IRL (In Real Life)

In the first installment of this year's General Learning series, UW NEXT is proud to welcome Andy Abrams. Andy is a UW NEXT member & a UW alum. His UW Journey began in 2002 as the Director of Information Technology before advancing to the Vice President of IT. After 15 years at the United Way of Greater Portland, he became the Director of Digital Systems Integration and later the Senior Director of Privacy and Cybersecurity at United Way Worldwide. He also spent time at Heller Consulting as a Senior Strategy Consultant providing AI Roadmaps, comprehensive IT Roadmaps, and privacy and data guidance to medium to large nonprofits throughout the US and Canada. Not only was Andy UWWs first Data Protection Officer, but as a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) he developed enterprise-wide privacy programs and led workshops across the United Way network. During this 60-minute session, Andy helped answer "What does this really mean for me?" when artificial intelligence and privacy dominate today's headlines. Plus, he uncovered how "free" online resources often come with hidden data costs and discuss practical steps you can take to protect your personal information. By the end of this workshop, participants were better equipped to make informed choices, act on their personal privacy rights, and use AI more responsibly.
