Let's Play Dawn of War Soulstorm: Necron Part 5 ( Dussala Precinct )

This is one of the more difficult strongholds in the campaign, mainly because of the Basilisk Magnus artillery cannon located in the center of the map. Destroying this weapon should be your top priority. You begin in the south-western corner with a normal starting base, your Lord, and your Honor Guard. The Imperial Guard main fortress lies in the north-east corner of the map, supported by several smaller outlying bases. The most dangerous element of this stronghold is the Basilisk Magnus. Unlike the Tau cannon, it has an enormous area of effect and can wipe out entire infantry squads in a single shot on Hard difficulty. The cannon will only start firing once the Imperial Guard reaches Alert Level 2, so you have a limited window early in the mission to destroy it. For this reason, eliminating the Basilisk Magnus before Alert Level 2 should be your first objective. As Necrons, The Necron Lord with the Veil of Shadows can easily destroy the Magnus, by teleporting up there and just . . . destroying it. Whichever method you choose, make sure the cannon is destroyed before Alert Level 2, otherwise it will become a constant threat to both your base and your army. Another mechanic in this mission is the Imperial Guard convoy system. Periodically, a light transport vehicle will leave one of the outer bases and travel toward the main base in the north-east. If enough convoys successfully reach their destination, the Guard will construct the Baneblade relic tank. Convoys are launched roughly every 75 seconds, and several successful deliveries are required before a Baneblade can be produced. The transport itself is very fragile, making it easy to destroy if intercepted. There is also a useful tactic you can use to almost completely neutralize the convoy system. The first convoys spawn from the closest base near your starting position and travel along a predictable route. If you do not destroy this base, and instead build defensive structures along the convoy path, every convoy will continue spawning from that same location. As long as the base remains intact, the route stays predictable, allowing your defenses to destroy the transports automatically. Once you are ready to advance, begin destroying the four outer bases around the map. This will stop additional convoy launches and weaken the defenses protecting the main fortress. Be sure to bring plenty of anti-vehicle units, because when these bases are attacked the drivers will man the parked vehicles, turning them into additional threats. After clearing the outer bases, gather your army and push toward the main Imperial Guard stronghold in the north-east. Destroy the main command center to complete the mission. The reward for conquering this stronghold is extremely valuable: it reduces the cost of all structures that require planetary requisition on the campaign map. Because of this powerful bonus, it is highly recommended to capture this territory as early as possible.
