Pray The Holy Rosary: Luminous Mysteries – Thursday, July 2, 2026 | Ordinary Time

Today we pray the Holy Rosary with the Luminous Mysteries for Thursday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time. In the First Reading, the priest Amaziah orders Amos to stop prophesying and go back where he came from. Amos answers with one of the most striking statements of prophetic calling in all of Scripture: "I was no prophet, nor have I belonged to a company of prophets; I was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores. The Lord took me from following the flock, and said to me: Go, prophesy to my people Israel." Amos did not choose this — he was chosen, from the most ordinary of lives, and sent with a word he did not ask for (Amos 7:10–17). In the Gospel, friends carry a paralytic to Jesus on a stretcher, and when Jesus sees their faith — not just the sick man's faith, but the faith of those who carried him — he says: "Courage, child, your sins are forgiven." The scribes are scandalized, so Jesus offers proof: "Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home." The man rises. The crowds are struck with awe and glorify God who has given such authority to men (Matthew 9:1–8). The Luminous Mysteries illumine the public ministry of this same Jesus — the One who calls the unqualified, heals the broken, and forgives what no human power can touch. These readings together reveal a God who bypasses the credentialed and the comfortable and reaches for the shepherd, the paralytic, the person carried in by someone else's faith. You do not need to have arrived. You do not need to have earned your place. What Amos received in a field and what the paralytic received on a stretcher is available to anyone who comes — or is carried — into the presence of Christ. As we pray the Luminous Mysteries today, we ask for the grace to hear his call from wherever we are, and to rise at his word.
