Road Trip #1235 - US Highway 192 West - Florida Mile 14.8-8.1 | Celebration In Road Trip #1235, we continue west on US-192 and hidden SR-530 from the west edge of Kissimmee into the Celebration area, covering Florida mile 14.8 to mile 8.1 on April 5, 2026. This segment follows the heart of the Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway tourist corridor, passing Medieval Times, the US-192 marker system, the Giant Wizard Head, Eli’s Orange World, Old Town, and the busy attraction district near Walt Disney World. Along the way, we pass under SR-417, enter Celebration, and approach the former Orlando Sun Resort site before crossing I-4 at one of Central Florida’s busiest tourism gateways. It’s a short drive, but it’s packed with roadside character, theme-park traffic, and classic Kissimmee vacation-strip scenery. Traveling east to west, it begins just off the Atlantic Ocean on Fifth Avenue, crosses the Indian River Lagoon on the Melbourne Causeway, runs through Melbourne on New Haven Avenue and Strawbridge Avenue, then becomes a long inland connector across Brevard and Osceola counties. It passes through West Melbourne, rural ranchland and conservation areas, Holopaw, St. Cloud, Kissimmee, the Disney-area tourist corridor, and finally Four Corners, where Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Polk counties meet. The route is also tied into several major highways, including I-95, Florida’s Turnpike, US-441, US-17, US-92, I-4, and US-27. Historically, US-192 began much shorter than it is today. It was part of the original 1926 U.S. Highway system and first ran from Kissimmee east to Melbourne, using portions of the older Kissimmee-Melbourne Highway. Its number reflects its role as a branch of US-92, which it still meets, and is briefly concurrent with in Kissimmee. The road was later extended east across the Indian River to Indialantic, and in 1972 it was extended west to US-27 to serve the rapidly growing Walt Disney World area. That western extension helped transform US-192 from a regional connector into one of Florida’s best-known tourist corridors, lined with hotels, restaurants, attractions, gift shops, and the familiar tourist-oriented mile marker system through the Kissimmee area. US-192 carries several names that reflect the different communities and eras it passes through. In Indialantic it is Fifth Avenue, in Melbourne it is tied to the Melbourne Causeway, New Haven Avenue, and Strawbridge Avenue, and in St. Cloud it becomes 13th Street, fitting the city’s numbered street grid. Through Kissimmee and much of Osceola County, it is best known as Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, named after Irlo Overstreet Bronson Sr., a Kissimmee-area cattle rancher, Florida legislator, and major local landowner who sold land that became part of Walt Disney World. East of the Kissimmee-St. Cloud area, the Space Coast Parkway name points toward Brevard County’s Space Coast, with US-192 serving as a direct route from Central Florida to Melbourne, Indialantic, the beaches, and the broader space-industry region around Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center.
