Sidney Poitier: An Iconic Moment on the Golden Globes Stage
To start off Black History Month - and because this is also Sidney Poitier's birthday month (he would have been 96), here is a truly iconic moment: In 1982, Mister Poitier, the first black artist to win a Golden Globe for best actor in 1964 for "Lilies of the Field", also was the first African American to receive the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award. Recordings of that year's broadcast were lost, unfortunately. But we found another iconic moment when the legend that is Sidney Poitier lauded Morgan Freeman on that same Golden Globe stage (with a little help from Dame Helen Mirren). Be prepared to laugh and cry at the same time. #sidneypoitier #cecilbdemille #goldenglobes #1982 #morganfreeman #helenmirren Still haven't subscribed to Golden Globes on YouTube? ►► / goldenglobes CONNECT WITH US WEB: http://www.goldenglobes.com Facebook: / goldenglobes Twitter: / goldenglobes Instagram: / goldenglobes
