Zainal Abidin ABOUT THE BOOK OF AL-HIKAM The book of Al-Hikam is a Sufi book written by a great scholar and Sufi teacher named Shaykh Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Atha'illah as-Sakandari. Ibn Atha'illah was an important figure in the Syadziliyah Order, which in the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) tradition is considered one of the Mu'tabarah an-Nahdliyah Orders. The book of Al-Hikam contains several important teachings on self-management, including: 1. A wise person is one who does not boast about his acts of worship. Those who boast about their deeds lack hope in Allah, so whatever they receive is attributed to their acts of worship, not to His mercy and blessings. Meanwhile, a wise person, in strengthening their faith in Allah, always holds fast to the power and will of Allah SWT. 2. Acts of worship that are firmly and firmly connected to faith are those performed with a sincere heart. Because sincerity is the spirit of charity, and such charity shows the upholding of faith. If the deeds of worship are not based on sincerity, it will lead the servant to become arrogant and forget himself. 3. A heart that lives with faith will feel sad if that faith and obedience are lost from it. The heart of a believer is very happy when he has carried out goodness or obedience. 4. People who do good deeds while waiting for their free time are the same as people who are playing with time. Time goes on, while there is no free time, so charity has not been carried out. If the time to do charity is very limited, then the opportunity to do charity may not be sufficient. 5. If humans understand a trial that comes from Allah and accept it with a happy heart, then the trial will be felt as something very light. Allah gives trials to His servants, it does not mean that Allah hates them, it will still mean that Allah shows affection by paying attention to the servant who is being tested.
