Skyrim SE - MeganMods Player Home - Ranger Ridge Outpost
Upcoming player home that should be ready for nexusmods upload soon. I had picked out this spot for a future small camp style home several years ago, and finally I decided to start making it. I began working on this one June 20th and as if this video over a week and a half later I am nearly done. This home started out very simple, all I intended was to make a tiny shack, a campfire and possibly a tower, and then I added a garden, and then a tent for furs and such, and more, and more, and before I knew it I strayed from my original idea and ended up with a rather large fort much like bandits would favor with lots of tall palisade walls and covering quite a bit of not just the ridge but even the lower ground before it with stockade tower, walkways, a gate and room for a horse to roam around. This all looked pretty cool, but I went way off track, so I removed all that and started back at where I had begun and remembered what I wanted and with a more clear picture in my head got to doing it the way it was supposed to be, what is shown in this video. This was a difficult one because I wanted to have a trail going up the ridge, and this also required me having to move a large rock ledge over, something I tried not to do but ultimately had to, but given that Bethesda only did navmesh on the top and not even completely, yet no navmesh at the lower part, moving this rock was of no consequence and so with that was able to start making my Z shaped path leading up to the top. Lots of plants to line the side of the trail to make it feel more like a narrow nature trail hike even though a short one. This home went through several changes along the way but still the main thing was to make it feel like a place for a hunter or more appropriately a ranger, someone that lives out there in nature, watching over that but also over the road, perhaps duty-bound be it assigned or self appointed, to protect all that need protecting in the immediate area, this fork in the road. Dragon Bridge in the distance and Solitude even further but both in clear sight while on the ridge or up in the tower. And most of all, I wanted this to stay as vanilla as possible, but also look and feel like it blends with the environment, unlike when I turned the place into a huge fort which stood out way too much and took over the environment instead of being in harmony with it. So this video I am using a new mod that I just downloaded this morning, A Ghibli Skyrim AIO for both Architecture as well as Landscapes, covering most stuff and it not only looks really nice and clean this art style but runs pretty well too for my PC. So taking care of two things in this video, checking out those textures while also showing my player home. So, first I explore the home slowly as I can, walking through much of it, then once most of it is seen I step back a bit, zooming up to show the whole place, follow the hawk through the air ever so clumsily with the flying cam, flight path is good, clears all trees and ledges, and then go to Morthal, grab the first follower I see, Zalahdyn, from Whitewolf Pack and take him back home with me to test out the navigation. With no navmesh leading up to the top from the bottom you'd have to force him (or any follower) up there, but it the jaxonz positioner, or a mod like CS Tag & Track, but also, as I do in the video, sometimes you can get followers to go through non-navmeshed areas if you sort of lead them to lead, keeping yourself in their line of sight, and lead them as if by an invisible leash. I got him through and into the navmeshed area. Once up there had him follow me around a little bit, told him to sleep in the follower tent and he did. I even got him to reach the top of the tower with me, and it isn't even navmeshed, so with him up there had him sit and keep watch while I moved about some more. I was trying to think what I could have been missing to show in this video and it was riding a horse up there as well as getting Meeko and having him tag along to my camp, uh, always forget something, maybe next time. Anyway, I know it all works okay, at least as much as I can do with it, so with that All I've left to do is make a cleaner looking esp, take a ton of pictures and get everything ready for uploading, I always hate all that part, just too many steps, takes so long that the uploading feels like a mod of its own. But for now, rest I must, I'll most likely get this one done later tonight or wee hours of the morning tomorrow if I don't find myself editing it anymore. Mod is now up on nexusmods: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspeci... Note: Finished player home has had some changes from what is seen in this video, such is I didn't think the fur tent was appropriate for this ranger station so I removed that and replaced with a woodchopping area, also added a few more minor things here and there.
