Volcano Watch 2023: Waiting On An Eruption

Since July 5, 2023, the Reykjanes peninsula has experienced a swarm of more than 4,700 earthquakes, with the strongest one registering a magnitude of 4.8. Volcanologists are speculating that the next eruption could occur within a few hours or days. To better understand the situation, The Reykjavík Grapevine took a trip to the lava field near Fagradalsfjall, where eruptions occurred in 2021 and 2022.
