Inside 180 Years of Workers' Homes | Blaenavon Ironworks

Step inside the remarkable workers' cottages of Blaenavon Ironworks and explore almost 180 years of everyday life. From the first families who arrived in the 1780s to the last residents who left in 1970, these homes tell the story of ordinary people living through extraordinary change at Engine Row and Stack Square. Today we're visiting the workers' cottages at Blaenavon Ironworks, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in South Wales. Rather than focusing on the blast furnaces themselves, this weeks film follows the lives of the families who called these cottages home. Working class families doing their best in often difficult circumstances. We'll walk through the recreated interiors of Engine Row and Stack Square, exploring homes furnished to represent life in 1790, 1840, 1927, 1944, 1957 and 1967. Along the way we'll discover how industrial workers lived, how their homes changed across nearly two centuries, and why these cottages remained occupied until 1970. We'll also visit the reconstructed Truck Shop, learn about the company shop system, and finish at the remarkable St Paul's Church, famous for its cast-iron architecture and iron gravestones. This isn't just the story of an ironworks. It's the story of the ordinary families who lived in its shadow. 📍 Location: Blaenavon Ironworks, Torfaen, South Wales To Visit : https://cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-t...
