Mathilda May : "T'es pas à l'abri de surprises !" - Mesdames Media

For this in-depth interview, Elsa Wolinski welcomes Mathilda May, an artist with many lives. Strikingly beautiful, Mathilda grew up with a Greek-Turkish playwright father and a Swedish mother. At 18, she landed the lead role in Arnaud Sélignac's film Nemo by chance, then caught the eye of Claude Chabrol in The Cry of the Owl. Hyper-sexualized, as was the norm at the time, she navigated this period as if holding her breath, largely unconcerned by the image projected onto her. Then came a period of hardship, followed by depression. This fall became a turning point: at 45, Mathilda took control of her life and embarked on a new career as a director. She won a Molière Award for The Banquet. Today, her sixth production, CUT!, is on the horizon. Running from January 13 to 17, 2026 at the Grande Halle de la Villette, this kaleidoscope of humanity is brought to life by a minimalist set design. Mathilda May surprises, moves, and impresses: profound, intellectual, and humble, she proves that inner beauty always shines through. 👉 Find all our in-depth interviews in our dedicated section. 📲 Did you enjoy this video?
