She's a creation of Disney's Silver Age, and one of the "trio" of the original Disney Princesses, along with Snow White and Cinderella. All three of these characters have faced long criticism for being "too passive" in their stories. Snow White and Cinderella have enjoyed a redemption arc regarding that, but you still don't really see this happening with Aurora, claimed as the "boring helpless one." I argue that Aurora is one of the most relatable Disney Princesses and has great character qualities. Boring? She's anything but.
