Homeless & facing eviction

Up to eight homeless people who have been accommodated at the Europa Retreat Centre are facing eviction. The Government has told GBC the individuals knew the arrangement was temporary and have had over three weeks to find somewhere else to live. However, those who spoke to GBC said Covid-19 has changed their circumstances and they have nowhere to go. For its part, Action for Housing said they have just been alerted to this situation in the past 24 hours and have interviewed six of the individuals, who they say have different backgrounds & different situations, "some very complex". Henry Pinna said Action for Housing does not want the Housing Minister to intervene and allocate flats; he said what is required is for Steven Linares to make clear what the policy is regarding homelessness, the allocation process for available flats & how these people's situation will be looked into.
