Existential Therapy: Freedom

This video outlines existential conceptualizations of freedom, which involves our radical capacity for deliberation, choice, and action, sometimes within the bounds of even severe constraint. But with freedom comes existential responsibility, which can be another source of anxiety, that can be dealt with in authentic or inauthentic ways. A good therapist will work collaboratively with a client, to help them recognize the various ways in which they are free to think and act, to face anxieties that can arise in doing so, and to carry the burden of responsibility for the lives that they choose to live.
