Another sign of a leaking gasket is radiator water spraying from the radiator cap as the engine is revved/opened. If the leak is significant, the engine can sometimes be difficult to start when cold. Once confirmed, proceed immediately. After disassembling, the leaking gasket is clearly visible, as are the curved surfaces of the block bore and cylinder head. To smooth the area, I use 120- or 180-grit sandpaper, and for finishing, I use 500-grit sandpaper. The sanding process must be careful; the sandpaper must be placed on a completely flat surface, such as thick glass. The glass coaster must also be flat; I usually place it on a ceramic tile. One important thing I'd previously overlooked was the condition of the two block boring bolts (skewer bolts) that had come loose during the disassembly process. When I was about to start assembling, I discovered they wouldn't come loose. I took the quick route and ground them. It turned out the bolts were worn out. These bolts could be the source of the warped gasket problem. This turned out to be the longest process; I waited five days to find the original bolts that fit this bike.
