The National Monuments Association was an institution formed nearly a century ago to save Iran’s historical memory. From finding and restoring the tomb of Ferdowsi to building the tombs of Khayyam, Avicenna, Saadi, and Nader Shah, its members sought to bring Iranian history out of libraries and back into the cities, squares, and everyday lives of the people. This is the story of those who understood that preserving cultural monuments and relics is not just an architectural task, but also part of preserving the identity of a nation.
