The Ukrainian Gunsmiths' Association today condemned calls for the use of weapons during the ongoing violent standoff in central Kyiv. They believe that anyone calling for arms in this situation is a radical, regardless of which side they support. Based on this interpretation, all sides in the conflict in Kyiv were considered radicals yesterday. Police claim to have seized firearms discarded by young men fleeing from security forces. Specifically, the Ministry of Internal Affairs says they found two revolvers, two sawed-off hunting rifles, and even two grenade launchers. The police themselves are far from unarmed: while previously they limited themselves to batons, tear gas, stun grenades, and pump-action shotguns designed for rubber bullets, now security forces have taken to the streets of Kyiv in full combat readiness – armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles, sniper rifles, and combat pistols.
