“酷暑日”車のトラブル増加　全員汗だく…故障車に対応　JAF岐阜支部に密着

With temperatures approaching 40°C, car troubles are on the rise. In Gifu City, the JAF Gifu branch was busy responding to car breakdowns. JAF member Kondo arrived at a location where a car wouldn't start. The caller was a man in his 60s. He called JAF because his car wouldn't start when he got in to go to work. JAF Gifu Branch Member Kondo Mitsuhiro: "The voltage drops suddenly, so I'll connect the battery and try to start the engine." The cause was a dead battery. According to JAF, battery-related problems are the most common type of request. Especially in summer, the heat puts a strain on cars, leading to an increase in such cases. After about 20 minutes, the work was completed, and the man headed to work. Without a break, JAF member Kondo went to the next scene. This was a request to transport a broken-down minivan to a repair shop. However, upon inspecting the scene, it seemed there was something problematic. Upon hearing the explanation… JAF Gifu Branch Officer Kondo Mitsuhiro: "We needed a few more people, so we asked for backup, but we're quite busy right now…" The parking lot was too small, and it was determined that one officer couldn't move the car. They decided to urgently request backup. However, due to the backlog of requests, the backup wouldn't arrive for two hours. Since the car was unusable, the client decided to take the day off work. While waiting for the backup, Kondo went to the next client. The outdoor work continued as the temperature rose rapidly. JAF Gifu Branch Officer Kondo Mitsuhiro: "It's hot. (Q. What are your heat countermeasures?) They're working well now. Thanks to this." Before deploying, he had prepared a fan-equipped vest, and a towel that cools when wet with water around his neck. Officers are working in the scorching heat while taking these kinds of precautions. JAF Gifu Branch Officer Mitsuhiro Kondo: "We're working while taking frequent breaks and making sure to stay hydrated. (Q. How are you feeling?) I'm still okay." Shortly after noon, additional officers arrived at the scene. Working in pairs, they carefully moved the car out of the parking lot and loaded it onto a truck. Approximately an hour and a half later, the work was completed. The car was then transported to a repair shop. Summer is a time when unexpected car troubles increase.
