A historic verdict has been reached at the conclusion of the trial for the assassination of Thomas Sankara, killed 34 years ago. At the Ouagadougou military court this Wednesday, the sentences were severe: life imprisonment for former Burkina Faso president Blaise Compaoré, as well as for his bodyguard commander, Hyacinthe Kafando. The same sentence was handed down to General Gilbert Diendéré, one of the army's top brass. He and Blaise Compaoré were also found guilty of "complicity in assassination."
