What Do Pigs Do To Your Pasture

In this video, we show our pigs out on pasture and what they naturally do to the ground. Pigs are incredible animals, but they are not gentle on land. They root, dig, turn soil, chase weeds and roots, create wallows, and completely change the look of a paddock in a short amount of time. At first glance, it can look like damage. But when pigs are managed properly and moved through pasture at the right time, that natural disturbance can become part of a regenerative farming system. They help turn over compacted ground, cycle nutrients, reduce waste, prepare areas for future pasture growth, and contribute to healthier soil over time. For us at Stoney Creek, raising pigs on pasture is about more than producing pork. It’s about learning how animals can work with the land, not against it, while helping us build a more productive and sustainable small farm. The difference between damage and regeneration is management. Follow along with Our Stoney Creek Journey as we continue developing our homestead, raising animals on pasture, and learning how to grow more of our own food.
